Summary: Andrew Yang was a Presidential candidate in the 2020 Election. Although he failed in getting elected he was recognized as one of the most famous figures in US politics. In January of 2021, he announced that he would run for New York City Mayor and was virtually guaranteed of winning the general election. Yang was dominating the mayoral contest by proposing things like universal basic income and the promise of an "anti-poverty city". Sara Joe Wolansky and Gareth Smit explored this in their new documentary, “The Andrew Yang Show.” They wanted to capture the feelings of Andrew when he was at his highs and lows. After New York re-opened there was an upswing in anti-Asian hate crimes. Yang had the platform and personal experiences to talk about this giving him an edge over his opponents, but some of his public interactions revealed a lack of familiarity with city politics. On top of that it had been discovered that Yang had never voted in a New York City mayoral election, and that he and his family had spent most of the pandemic in their second home, upstate.

3 Fun Facts:

  1. After the 2 losses Yang formed a political-action committee with the goal of establishing a third party in U.S. politics.

  2. The motto of the part is: not left, not right, forward

  3. Gracie Mansion is the official residence of the Mayor of New York City.
